Sweating That Performance Review?

May 24, 2009 · Comments Off

Performance reviews, deadlines, conference meetings, micro-management – who needs any of it?  There are enough stresses in life to then have to deal with someone breathing down your neck, checking on the status of your work every second.  If you’re fed up with your boss or the corporate structure that your company currently has in progress, now is the time to try a new business venture.

You may be under the impression that keeping your current position is the most appropriate option with today’s dwindling economy.  Thousands of people are currently being laid-off therefore it is best to keep quiet about the things that may be making you unhappy at work and just be thankful that you have a job.  Although this may seem like a sound move, there are business opportunities currently available which will allow you to switch careers and secure your financial future while leaving behind all extraneous stresses of work.  A good example of an up and coming business structure that will allow this type of freedom and security is home-based business.

Who Needs Twitter?

May 12, 2009 · Comments Off

by Mary Ann Huddle

Newsflash–I love Twitter! Considering where I am coming from, that is quite a statement. I resisted joining Facebook as I was sure it was just ‘one more thing to find time to do and keep up with’. But the lure of winning a free trip to some fabulous location necessitated opening my first FB account last December. Recently I’ve been learning about the value and usefulness of social media. From total resistance I’ve sashayed to my new conviction, “well why not?”  Today I followed a link from Chris Anderson, TED curator, as TED podcasts are just OUTSTANDING and I feel I have my finger on the pulse when I listen or watch what TED has deemed exceptional in the worlds of technology, entertainment and design. What pulled my heartstrings was watching a video that created ‘chicken skin’ as we say here in Hawaii, and a need to share. Chris wrote on Twitter: Twitter and TED friends, pls help kickstart this!http://tr.im/l9Hj (link fixed)(via @TEDchris) What better way to share my enthusiasm but to re-tweet it?!! But how do you do that? The tropical birds outside my windows made it seem so easy!! But being a mere mortal it took me several minutes researching, then copying and adding a comment and, voila’ all links were up and running. Did I mention I lost or closed the wrong tab several times enroute? Or that I had to erase my tweet twice after posting it? Or that I had to decipher the directions in order to follow them? Or that the birds continued to tweet? The point being: there was success and it felt good. And every skill mastered makes it just that much more likely to try something new again. Ah yes, the quintessential learning curve….

Why is Internet Marketing like Flying?

May 11, 2009 · Comments Off

By Stan Huddle

Close your eyes real tight for a moment… imagine  yourself at the gate, sitting in the Captain’s seat of a  fueled and loaded Boeing 747-400 airliner. Today’s flight is planned from San Francisco to Tokyo, Japan… the other crew members have initialized the navigation systems and completed their preflight items… they are waiting for you. You’ve made this trip many times as a passenger, and you’ve even read a number of books about flying. On top of that, since you live near the airport, you see these massive craft coming and going every day. You’re well familiar with watching them fly. You’re not rated in the 747, but really, how hard could it be? If you’ve ever actually sat in the cockpit of a 747, the absurdity of this little scenario would become quite apparent. The 747 is an incredibly complex aircraft requiring years of training and experience to fly. It is not something that even a highly seasoned and experienced pilot is qualified to undertake unless they are specifically certified in that particular aircraft.

Although many people don’t realize it, pretty much the same thing holds true for Internet marketing. Although lives certainly aren’t at stake when promoting a business opportunity online, financial futures typically are. As the economy continues its downward slide, more and more people are launching home-based Internet marketing businesses to take back control over their financial future, and to create the abundance in their lives that they deserve. It’s a serious undertaking, and not something that one should embark on lightly. As opposed to the hobbyist who sells fishing flies from his bedroom, serious Internet entrepreneurs are literally staking it all on a new career.

For that reason, unless you are well trained and highly experienced on the tools, strategies, techniques, and processes used in effective Internet marketing, it is not something that you should undertake yourself. There are many facets to a well crafted and properly executed Internet marketing program. From the basics of website and blog design, to expert copywriting, all the way through to the effective leverage of social networks, the Internet marketer has a toolbox brimming with technological wonders. The problem is that although the concept behind these tools is relatively simple, the actual implementation of them is not.

Just like the person who sees a plane flying and thinks that they could fly it as well, simply being exposed to Internet marketing media does not qualify one to engage in Internet marketing. A far better strategy is to use outsourced services that can devise, manage, and implement a comprehensive Internet marketing plan.

Internet marketing is not for beginners. Find a qualified partner, a mentor, or an entire company who can help you to optimize your online marketing efforts.

Till next time…

Aloha,

Stanley Huddle
